Today we were at Cudmore Fishery in Staffordshire on what was a completely rebuilt Suez Canal.
The view looked more like a quarry with newly built road around the pool allowing you to park behind your peg, but otherwise barren as the newly done pool has no features and the grass hasn't even started growing.
Had an issue when we got there with pegs, but Chairman resolved that although we was to be sharing the pool with an open match we didn't know about.
Members had arrived at 8.00am with most having a breakfast and during this time the pegging was sorted and we were ready for the draw at 8.30am.
Twenty two members were on hand today for this match and Mark Whiteside drew the Golden Peg for today's match, so it was downhill all the way for him as we know the Golden Peg is cursed.
After the draw everyone made their way to their pegs and the match fished the usual five hour duration from 10.00 - 3.00.
For the first time in many matches there was very little breeze and from time to time a very fine rain, as the day progressed it became pretty muggy with air temperature getting up to 20 degree's although felt warmer.
It was a disappointing match with poor catch as you can see from the weights below.
I'm sure given a couple of years the pool will develop but it is too new, the fish too small and not enough of them, particularly when most pegs are in use as they were today with us and the open match anglers.
Well done to everyone today, sorry about the underperforming venue, we only found out when we got there. In a few weeks time it's our first coach trip of the year on 11th July to Solhampton in Worcestershire where we hope to get a more significant catch!
See you on a match soon.
