We had our biggest turn out of members so far this year with twenty six anglers, three of whom were guests contesting this our last Spring League match of 2013.
Thanks to Dave Ikin of Partridge Lakes we managed to swap from Pine to Covey No 6 when we knew the potential attendance levels, so thanks for bailing us out Dave!
Whilst it was the last Spring match, it certainly wasn't Spring weather, we had a maximum temperature of about eleven degrees, but with the wind chill it felt a lot colder and when the drizzle appeared about 1.00pm it felt colder still. The only good thing was the heavier rain forecast failed to appear.
As usual most arrived by 8.00am our usual meeting time which gives us chance to have a bite to eat and relieve members of their money for the match, pools and if applicable Golden Peg money. Our coach driver Colin brought along three guests (Dave, John & Neil) who as non-members entered the pools but not the Golden Peg. James Bryan sorted out the peg numbers, we finished eating and taking money and the draw took place.
Today's recipient of the Golden Peg was Mark Whiteside and following the win by Mark Davies at the last match, all eyes were on Mark W to get another result. As it happens the curse returned and Mark didn't win, but finished in a creditable third place in the match today. After the match Mark did comment that he felt better finishing third than second and we can understand why!
After the draw, members trecked off to their pegs and the all-in was sounded at 10.00am for the usual five hour match duration.
Most members we think were spending majority of the time on pellet and were getting F1's, some Chubb and a few Barbel.
Peg 135 (Roly) was suffering with wind (nature's variety that is, not bodily), and said it was like a day on the North sea, this was the same for a few, but where it was sheltered it was quite pleasant away from the stiff Northerly breeze.
All-out came and the weigh-in was completed. Below you will see the weights of all members and guests.
Forth place today for Alan was enough to secure him this year's Spring League title, whilst third place today secured Mark Whiteside's second place in the league and James Bryan's second place gave him third place overall in the league. Congratulations also to Ethan, one of our Juniors who took on the adults at their own game and finished a creditable seventh place, well done Ethan!
Well done also to everyone who fished today's match in not ideal conditions, see you all hopefully on the next match which will be a Summer Sizzler on Meadow View (Lark Pool) on Sunday 2nd June. Matches fish from 5.00pm - 9.00pm, aim to be there by 4.00pm. Peg money is £5 and the usual £2 pools (optional).Let's all pray that it is a sizzler and not a drizzler!
That's it for now,
See you all soon......Tightlines.....
