First match of our new season and first match in this year's Winter league and today we were up in Lancashire at Lathom Fisheries near Burscough. First time we have been here since November 2011 (see 2011 match report).
A fantastic turnout today of 26 anglers on what was a dry day with a cool slight breeze which belied the actual air temperature which got up close to thirteen degrees (C).
Alan and James sorted the pegging out, which today was going to be quite tight with 29 pegs available and 26 anglers, but the guys got it sorted.
The draw took place at about 8.30am and today's recipient of the Golden Peg was Rob Healey, as usual it was cursed as you will see reading the results.
Start time was set at 10.00am for the usual five hour duration.
The first 'occurence' of the day was Dave Newton turning up late and getting the last peg which was a flyer. Fair do's to Dave he did say he wouldn't fish, but if you know our club we ain't like that, so he got the peg and fished like a demon all day.
Neil Pritchard fishing with a not 100% shoulder managed to lose a top two, whilst looking away to sort something a cheeky fish grabbed the bait and towed his top two out into deep water, never to be seen again.
Adam next to Neil had a similar incident this time with the whole pole, fortunately Adam looked around in time and saved his pole and landed the fish!
The match concluded at 3.00pm and Alan, James & John B along with Neil P did the weigh-in today. The winner Dave Newton bagged up most of the day catching at 11 metres on the pole with maggot, second Alan also on pole at 13 metres using maggot/worm, and James came in third fishing closer in at 4 metres using maggot.
Well done everyone specially Kieran and Leon two of our Juniors
who took on the Seniors today, also to Rob on Golden Peg who had to sit and watch Dave catch all day as did most other anglers.
Our next match is only a week away at Rosemary Wood, so look forward to seeing you there!
See you all soon......Tightlines.....
