This was our last match of 2015 and the last match in our 2015 Winter League. It was a true Winter's day today, gusts of wind up to 50mph raced across the fishery causing interesting conditions for some.
Twenty Six hardy souls braved the elements and duly arrived at 8.00am sheltering in the cabin with a brew and a butty for the majority. Good to see Tom Prescott who due to work we haven't seen for ages, good to catch up with him again.
Alan and James sorted the pegging out with Mel the bailiff and we got the draw underway shortly after 8.30am, so match was scheduled for 10.00 - 3.00.
After the draw, anglers made their way to the pegs battling through the wind and some rain. Fortunately as the day progressed the rain that was forecast didn't materialise probably due to the high winds keeping it away!
The match ran the distance until the all-out sounded at 3.00pm. Several anglers had issues during the course of the match, including Joe Fagan whose seatbox with brolly attached sailed into the pool when he stood up off it, but was retrieved fortunately for Joe. Dave Hughes brolly crumpled under the strain of the wind, so he had to face the elements all day. On the Golden Peg was Sue whose top two gave out battling a fish and the elements, so she retired early back to the car. Her top two complete with fish attached arrived shortly after in Mark Davies peg, who managed to retrieve it.
Neil Pritchard who wasn't fishing today came along to see how the match was going and got the weigh-in started so as we could all get away a bit sooner, thanks for that Neil.
Congratulations to our match winner Neil Davies and to everyone who fought through the tough conditions that prevailed throughout the day. As this was our 'fur & feather' match, majority of anglers went to our pre-arranged pub for a carvery and a natter before we all go our seperate ways for a few months. Thanks to the staff in the Stonemill Pub, Warrington for their help and friendly service.
Thanks again to our match anglers who support us throughout the year, look forward to doing it all again when our club matches start in April with our Spring League.
Best wishes to all for a happy, prosperous and relaxing Christmas and New Year.
See you all soon......Tightlines.....
